Gender Equality holds accountability session on women football in Mpumalanga, 20 Aug

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) will convene an accountability session in Mpumalanga as part of its investigation into gender equality in women football.

The session will provide an opportunity for key stakeholders, including the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sports, Arts and Recreation, South African Football Association (SAFA) Mpumalanga, municipalities, women’s football clubs and footballers, to account for the measures taken to advance and support women and girls in football.

The CGE will examine issues including funding, access to sporting facilities, talent development, club support, governance, remuneration, gender mainstreaming, and measures to prevent and address gender-based violence and sexual harassment.

Attention will be given to the experiences and challenges faced by women and girls in rural and underserved communities, to identify gaps, strengthen accountability, and advance gender equality in women’s football.
